This scholarship fund was established by the Smith Scholarship Organization, to encourage higher education among young high school senior women. Purpose The Ethel Mae LEGACY scholarship is focused on helping students capture their dreams and visions by promoting higher education, and empowering students transitioning to undergraduate studies through financial support. Criteria The Ethel Mae LEGACY scholarship offers an equal opportunity to all high school women seniors seeking to attain higher education. This scholarship is not solely based on financial need or academic merit; but seeks students who are well-rounded and exemplify a passion for their career and choice of study. Criteria for eligibility of The Bessie Mae I AM WOMAN scholarship, is as follows: Obtained an undergraduate degree -Be a U.S. citizen -Have a 2.5 GPA or higher -Be enrolled full-time in a 4-year degree program at an accredited higher educational institution Guidelines Students must submit a completed and signed application, a 500 word essay, a current official transcript, proof of a minimum of 50 hours of completed community service and two letters of recommendations; one of which must be from a current or former academic instructor. Amount One scholarship recipient will receive an award in the amount of $ for the year. Scholarship will be awarded once a year; once in January. Student must continue to attend classes and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. Deadlines The application deadline is November 26, 2015 at 5pm CST, where all materials are to be submitted via U.S. Postal Mail. After reviewing applications, the Scholarship Committee will select the student who will be awarded the scholarship. Awardee will be notified by December 1st.
