This scholarship fund was established by the Smith Scholarship Organization, to encourage higher education among women matriculating through undergraduate studies. The Smith Scholarship Organization does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, national origin or ethnicity in the administration of its scholarship funds. Purpose The Jannie Mae Bon Voyage scholarship is focused on helping students capture their dreams and visions of learning abroad by promoting higher education, and empowering students through financial support . Criteria The Jannie Mae Bon Voyage scholarship offers an equal opportunity to all women who are currently enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program that desire to travel and learn abroad. This scholarship is not solely based on financial need or academic merit; but seeks students who are well-rounded and exemplify a passion for their major of choice. Criteria for eligibility of The Jannie Mae Bon Voyage scholarship, is as follows: Obtained an undergraduate degree -Be a U.S. citizen -Have a 3.0 GPA or higher -Be enrolled full-time in a 4-year degree program at an accredited higher educational institution -Be accepted into a Study Abroad Program Guidelines Students must submit a completed and signed application, a 500 word essay, minimum of 50 completed community service hours,a current official transcript, and two letters of recommendations; one of which must be from a current or former academic instructor. The Jannie Mae Bon Voyage Essay Writing Prompt: Applicant must complete a 500 word essay using the following:
-Where is your ideal country to study abroad and why? -How would studying abroad help you bring positive change to your community and the world at large? -What worldwide leader in your field has inspired you to study abroad and why?
Amount One scholarship recipient will receive an award in the amount for the year. Scholarship will be awarded once a year; once in January. Student must continue to attend classes and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. Deadlines The application deadline is Coming Soon, where all materials are to be submitted via U.S. Postal Mail. After reviewing applications, the Scholarship Committee will select the student who will be awarded the scholarship.
